Fort Payne was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Lovett 28-14. The Wildcats came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Fort Payne extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 7 this week by beating the Lions, 28-14. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Southside's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Patrick Lister threw for 134 and three touchdowns and Blake Devine had 77 yards receiving. On the ground Dantley Coker chipped in 174 yards. Justin Denson helped Southside's passing attack out by catching one ball for 24 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Lister and Coker the Panthers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Lister leads the league in passing with 426 yards, while Coker has rushed for 606 yards this season. Columbia's Terence Humphrey leads the league in receiving yards with 190 on five catches.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Boaz takes on the Wildcats. The Pirates have allowed 57 points this season, while Fort Payne has given up 83. Boaz allowed 7 points last week as it beat Albertville.
Southside took down Springville 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lister ran for five yards in the win.
