The Statesboro Blue Devils won the last time they faced the Coffee Trojans, and things went their way on Friday too. Statesboro rang in the new year with a 46-38 win over Coffee. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Coffee is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Statesboro can attribute much of their success to Dartavian (dj) Brown, who scored 23 points along with three steals. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamron (kam) Mikell, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Coffee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Junitho Benson. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. Larenzo Harvey was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Statesboro pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Coffee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Statesboro will take on Swainsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Coffee, they will be playing at home against Clinch County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Clinch County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
