After flying high against the Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech Griffins on Tuesday, the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes came back down to earth. Cape Hatteras' tough 51-30 defeat to Manteo on Thursday might stick with them for a while. Cape Hatteras lost against Manteo in their previous head to head last Wednesday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 45-42 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Cape Hatteras lost, one person who can't be blamed is Griffin Couch. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Couch's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Manteo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Sawyer out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Sawyer. The team also got some help courtesy of Zay Williams, who scored 14 points along with six steals.
Cape Hatteras' loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Manteo, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Hatteras will square off against Camden County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Manteo, they will head out on the road to face off against Holmes at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
