The Pueblo County Hornets struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Pueblo Central Wildcats had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Pueblo County took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pueblo Central. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Pueblo County of the 68-61 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Pueblo County still got an impressive performance from Dominic Mauro, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Harley Harding, who scored five points.
Xavier Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pueblo Central, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Tayvon Evans was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Pueblo County has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Pueblo Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo County's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pueblo South at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Pueblo South's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. Pueblo Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Widefield at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Widefield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Pueblo Central is ranked 79th).
