River Falls had won six straight road games dating back to last season and Olivia Doerre did her part to make it seven on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on New Richmond with a sharp 3-0 win with plenty of help from Doerre, who had 16 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.
One reason for the win was River Falls' just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
Meanwhile, Hudson was able to grind out a solid victory over Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday, taking the game 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Old Abes: they've now won three in a row.
The final score came out to 25-13, 25-20, 14-25, 25-13.
River Falls better keep an eye on Kaitlyn Drost. She was instrumental in Hudson's win, getting nine digs and eight assists. Those eight assists gave Drost a new career-high. Brooklyn Kaszas also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Hudson's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for River Falls, their win bumped their record up to 25-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: River Falls has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Hudson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
River Falls beat Hudson 2-0 in their previous matchup back in August. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
