The Marshall Owls pushed their score all the way to 63 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 82-63 to Mexico. Marshall has not had much luck with Mexico recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the loss, Marshall saw an underclassman step up: Brody Kueker almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Deacon Arends was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Marshall's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Mexico, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall will challenge Hannibal at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Marshall knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Hannibal likes a good challenge. Mexico's road trip will continue as they head out to face Osage at 5:00 p.m. on February 9th. Mexico is facing Osage at the right time seeing as Osage is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
