The Apollo Hawks will square off against the Valley Vista Monsoon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Apollo hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Apollo fell victim to Boulder Creek and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Jaguars, falling 15-0.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valley Vista). Everything went their way against South Mountain on Tuesday as Valley Vista made off with a 22-15 victory. With that win, the Monsoon brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Savanna Gumowski was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gumowski was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Valley Vista got a massive performance out of Addison Kennedy, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. Those four hits gave Kennedy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adria Garcia, who scored four runs and stole six bases while going 3-for-4.
Valley Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Valley Vista and bumps their season record up to 4-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.0 runs over those games. As for Apollo, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Everything went Apollo's way against Valley Vista in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Apollo made off with a 10-0 victory. Does Apollo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Valley Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
