The St. Bonaventure Seraphs will face off against the Viewpoint Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. Bonaventure is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
St. Bonaventure came into this matchup off a tough 12-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Rio Mesa by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Seraphs have suffered since April 9, 2024.
Maci Schotten was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Hudson Ortiz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Viewpoint put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Grace 9-3. Fans of the Patriots have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Emjay Peck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Carly Nelson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Anniston Aragon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Viewpoint kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Viewpoint pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs over those games. As for St. Bonaventure, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Both St. Bonaventure and Viewpoint just can't seem to miss. St. Bonaventure has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Viewpoint struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Bonaventure came out on top in a nail-biter against Viewpoint when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will St. Bonaventure repeat their success, or does Viewpoint have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
