Silex is 7-2 against Mark Twain since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Owls will face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Silex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Silex and Elsberry had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Owls were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Indians on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Owls have beaten the Indians on their field since May 8, 2018.
Chase Mullen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Vehige, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jack Johnson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Mark Twain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Bowling Green, falling 17-5.
Eli Snodgrass made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. Landen Armour was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Silex's record now sits at 2-3. As for Mark Twain, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silex has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mark Twain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Silex's way against Mark Twain when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Silex made off with a 10-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
