Kenston Forest hasn't had much luck against Brunswick Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Kenston Forest Kavaliers will look to defend their home field against the Brunswick Academy Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Kenston Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Kenston Forest is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Southampton Academy on Tuesday. They fell 5-2 to the Raiders. The loss was the Kavaliers' first of the season.
Kenston Forest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tine Sledd, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Roy Shepherd also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brunswick Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Tidewater Academy get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.
Cole Powell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Powell was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Jake McAden looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits.
Back at the plate, Brunswick Academy let Ross Reese and Nathan Wells run wild. Reese scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Wells went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Reese a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Holloway, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Brunswick Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Kenston Forest fell to 3-1. As for Brunswick Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kenston Forest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Brunswick Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kenston Forest was able to grind out a solid win over Brunswick Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will Kenston Forest repeat their success, or does Brunswick Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
