Rogers is 8-2 against Sumner since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rams will challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Rogers is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Rogers had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Spanaway Lake on Thursday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Sentinels. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by nine runs or more this season.
Emma Mitchell made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mitchell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Rossmeier was incredible, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kelsey Vernon also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Sumner suffered their closest loss since May 17, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Emerald Ridge by a score of 10-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost four in a row.
Emma Hixon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Naya Alastra, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Rogers' victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sumner, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rogers has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rogers skirted past Sumner 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
