Baseball Recap: Holmen Has No Trouble Against Onalaska

Holmen barely beat Onalaska the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings put the hurt on the Hilltoppers with a sharp 10-3 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Paul Goryl tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joe Meeter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Mashak, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Holmen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Onalaska only posted a batting average of .148.

Holmen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Onalaska, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holmen will take on Marshfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Onalaska, they will square off against Altoona at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
