United South has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Alexander Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (United South is ranked 526th, while Alexander is ranked 536th).
After only seven points in their last match, United South made sure to put some points up on the board against Del Rio on Thursday. United South strolled past Del Rio with points to spare, taking the game 32-16. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but United South was the (much) better team in the second half.
Carlos Segovia was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. Segovia was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Montemayor, who gained 102 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, everything went Alexander's way against Laredo LBJ on Friday as Alexander made off with a 47-27 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Alexander.
Alexander can attribute much of their success to Javi Jimenez, who threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes, and Gael Rodriguez, who rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Rodriguez is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Jose "Pepe" Vazquez did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 66 receiving yards.
Their wins bumped United South to 2-5 and Alexander to 4-3.
United South came up short against Alexander when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 20-13. Can United South avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
