Crown Point has gone a perfect 10-0 against Michigan City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Crown Point is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Lake Central, who was ranked second at the time (Crown Point was ranked eighth). The Bulldogs fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Paige Liezert was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ashlyn Kita made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, Michigan City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 17-14 to Merrillville. Wolves fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Pirates since on Monday.
Ann Sawyer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hall, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.
Crown Point's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Michigan City, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Michigan City's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Crown Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Michigan City, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 strikeouts. Will Crown Point keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Everything went Crown Point's way against Michigan City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Crown Point made off with a 24-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
