Lyons and York are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Lions will welcome the Dukes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lyons took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Glenbard West get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Tommy Georgelos was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lon Roberts, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, York came tearing into Wednesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Dukes, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Nathan Rickenbrode looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Josh Fleming was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Marco Giorno, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
York's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Lyons, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Lyons might still be hurting after the 13-6 loss they got from York when the teams last played on Tuesday. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
