Myrtle has won three straight games at home, while East Union has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Myrtle Hawks will welcome the East Union Urchins at 7:00 p.m. Myrtle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Myrtle proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 16) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over West Union. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted against the Eagles since March 23, 2019.
Ally Murphy was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Murphy is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Cora Beth Kelly, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Myrtle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, East Union beat West Union 8-5 on Wednesday.
Lily Kate Johnson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marley Clayton, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Madi Robbins was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
East Union's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Myrtle, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Myrtle came up short against East Union in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Can Myrtle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
