The Claremont Wolfpack's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Compton. Claremont found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 11 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Claremont still got an impressive performance from Jaden Wang, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wang pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aarion Kennebrew, who scored seven points along with six assists and five steals.
Even though they lost, Claremont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Oshon Mitchell was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds for Compton. Mitchell has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Jashon Finley was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Claremont has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Compton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Claremont will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Ayala at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Ayala has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 436 points over their last seven matches. As for Compton, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodrow Wilson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodrow Wilson presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Compton in California (Woodrow Wilson is ranked 345th, while Compton is ranked 1046th).
