South Stokes (Walnut Cove, N.C.) received a huge boost from its defense against
West Stokes (King, N.C.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating
West Stokes (King, N.C.), 35-9.
The Sauras were up 14-9 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jacquan Martin in the second quarter.
South Stokes expanded its lead to 12 points entering the fourth quarter. SS scored once in the quarter on a
JJ Davis touchdown run.
A 14-point fourth quarter was enough to cement the win for the Walnut Cove school, as it pushed the final margin of victory to 26.
Zack Manley made a difference for the Wildcats. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
The Sauras' standout player in the win was Martin. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 21 touchdowns on the season.
West Stokes' lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by Manley in the second quarter.
South Stokes had given up an average of 13.9 points prior to the contest. WS's nine points were below its season average of 13.3 per game.
SS got revenge for last year's 34-14 loss to the King school with the victory.
The loss comes after West Stokes defeated North Stokes 57-20 last week. The loss snapped the Wildcats' 3-game winning streak.
West Stokes (4-5) goes up against Bishop McGuinness in a 2A/1A Northwest game matchup next week, while South Stokes (7-1) locks horns with Mount Airy also in a 2A/1A Northwest game.
