The Johnson Jaguars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down Madison 55-38. Given Johnson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Madison is ranked 485th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Johnson was led to victory by Ty Hawkins and Lorenn "bubba" Johnson. Hawkins threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, while Johnson gained 233 total yards and four touchdowns. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was King Johnson, who picked up 109 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Johnson's victory was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Lee and 2-8 Marshall (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.6% over those games). As for Madison, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Johnson will be playing at home against New Braunfels at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in New Braunfels' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games. Madison does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
