The Silverado Skyhawks and the Durango Trailblazers will face off at 8:00 a.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Silverado is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
On Wednesday, Silverado ended up a good deal behind Sierra Vista and lost 46-31.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaitlyn Jack-Keller, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. She scored a full 38.7% of Silverado's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Timia Thomas was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Durango's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They managed a 42-37 win over Western.
Amia McKinney and Elizebeth Mahavong were among the main playmakers for Durango as the former scored ten points and the latter scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Rayneria Lockett, who scored six points.
Silverado has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Durango, their victory bumped their record up to 3-10.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Silverado have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Durango struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 19.8 rebounds per game. Given Silverado's sizeable advantage in that area, Durango will need to find a way to close that gap.
Silverado came out on top in a nail-biter against Durango in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 45-42. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Durango's Shayla Kantarevic, who scored 22 points. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Silverado to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
