If the Tennessee Preparatory Academy Diplomat Lions were riding high off their 76-44 takedown of the Specially Fit Academy Rams last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tennessee Preparatory Academy fell to Melrose 74-69. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Tennessee Preparatory Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Melrose is ranked 80th).
Devin Sanders Jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Melrose, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds. Sanders Jr is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Cooley, who scored 19 points.
Tennessee Preparatory Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Melrose, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Tennessee Preparatory Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Melrose won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Haywood at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Haywood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday.
