The St. Paul Catholic Falcons will head out to challenge the Torrington Raiders at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. St. Paul Catholic is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Saturday, St. Paul Catholic beat Oxford 9-5.
Harley Emmendorfer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lauren Kozlak was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily McCulloch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Torrington made easy work of Waterbury Career Academy on Saturday and carried off a 15-1 win. Considering the Raiders have won seven contests by more than 11 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Pergola made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Pergola was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Torrington got a massive performance out of Julia Rinaldi, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Grace Pruchnicki also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Torrington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Torrington's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for St. Paul Catholic, their record now sits at 15-2.
St. Paul Catholic took their victory against Torrington when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
