On Wednesday, the Pickens Blue Flame faced the Westside Rams in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Pickens took a 39-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westside. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pickens has scored all season.
Several Blue Flame players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hannah Campbell, who scored five points. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Owens, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Pickens' loss ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2. As for Westside, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pickens will challenge Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Berea is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Westside, they will head out on the road to face off against Easley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Easley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Wednesday.
