The St. Mary's Dragons will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Charleston Bluejays at 7:30 p.m. St. Mary's has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,047 points over their last 13 games.
On January 5th, St. Mary's earned a 64-51 victory over Ritenour. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Ritenour is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Charleston suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They suffered a rough 81-55 loss at the hands of Goreville. Charleston was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-25.
Charleston's loss came about despite a quality game from Ko'terrion Owens, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Owens hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Deshaun Henderson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
St. Mary's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.4 points per game. As for Charleston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
St. Mary's lost to Charleston at home by a decisive 96-77 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can St. Mary's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
