The South Shelby Cardinals posted their biggest win since December 5, 2023 on Friday. Everything went their way against Milan as South Shelby made off with a 57-36 victory. This was payback for South Shelby, who suffered a 44-41 loss the last time these two teams met.
Milan's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahmet Niasse, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Niasse has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Gonzalez, who scored 13 points.
The win got South Shelby back to even at 8-8. As for Milan, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Shelby's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Monroe City at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Milan will take on Grundy County/Newtown-Harris at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Milan likes a good challenge.
