The American Fork Cavemen will take on the Riverton Silverwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with American Fork sitting on 11 straight wins and Riverton on three.
American Fork is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Bingham.
CJ Mascaro made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Crew Ingersoll, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Cache Poulson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Riverton faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Silverwolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Sentinels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Silverwolves have posted since April 22nd.
Rocky Downs tossed a big game, striking out 14 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Riverton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Mounteer, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Mounteer has posted since back in March.
American Fork's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Riverton, their victory bumped their record up to 20-9.
American Fork couldn't quite finish off Riverton in their previous meeting back in April and fell 6-4. Can the Cavemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
