The Fremont Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Fairfield Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fremont is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Fremont let Churubusco stack six runs on them in the sixth inning on Tuesday but luckily Fremont prevailed anyway. Fremont walked away with a 12-7 victory over Churubusco. 12 seems to be a good number for Fremont as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Isaac Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Cayden Hufnagle was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Fairfield posted their closest victory since April 4th on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against LaVille, sneaking past 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won five in a row.
Andrew Bailey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
At the plate, Fairfield's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Beachy, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Fairfield pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fremont, their record now sits at 12-3.
Fremont's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fairfield, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fremont continue to outrun the ball?
Fremont took their win against Fairfield in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
