Baseball Recap: Oakridge Victorious

Oakridge won the last time they faced Oakland and things went their way on Monday too. The Warriors came out on top against the Oakers by a score of 7-2.

Jonathan Miller made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oakridge is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise. Miller was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other pitching news, Mason Hogue looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Oakridge got a big performance out of Cole Walters, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. The Warriors are 3-1 when Walters posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Lucas Curtis was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

Oakridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Oakridge back to even at 5-5. As for Oakland, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Oakridge will square off against Umpqua Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Monarchs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oakland, they will take on Camas Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
