After a string of four wins, the South View Tigers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 56-42 bruising from Cape Fear. South View has not had much luck with Cape Fear recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayla Blue, who scored five points along with 16 rebounds and two blocks. Nahmiah Aekins was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, South View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Jayda Angel was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points for Cape Fear. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Angel has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teralyn Harris, who scored eight points.
South View's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Cape Fear, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-1.
South View will be playing in front of their home fans against Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cape Fear, they will head out on the road to square off against Gray's Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gray's Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Cape Fear is ranked 23rd).
