The Lucerne Valley Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-34 victory over Apple Valley Christian. The win was a breath of fresh air for Lucerne Valley as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Lucerne Valley can attribute much of their success to Derrick Tyler, who scored 15 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Tyler has scored at least 25% of Lucerne Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Valentin Garibay, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Lucerne Valley's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Apple Valley Christian, they bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Excelsior Charter the next time they take the court. Lucerne Valley will head out to face Excelsior Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Apple Valley Christian will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
