The Polk County Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the York Institute Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Polk County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while York Institute is ranked 73rd).
Last Thursday, Polk County won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Sweetwater 29-28.
Damien McWilliams had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, York Institute put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Wartburg Central, posting a 40-7 win on the road. The result was nothing new for York Institute, who have now won five contests by 26 points or more so far this season.
Myles Leffew looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 37 yards and a touchdown. Braiden Christianson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Polk County's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for York Institute, their win was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Polk County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like York Institute struggles in that department as they've been even better at 255.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
