The Yorktown Tigers will take on the New Castle Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Yorktown is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
On Monday, Yorktown came up short against Wapahani and fell 9-4.
Yorktown got a good showing from Brody Foltz, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Foltz a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Kaden Crumes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. Noah Loveall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Castle, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Centerville a 9-0 shutout on Monday. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.
Not much got past Brayden Hancock, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Centerville off the board.
At the plate, Arrin Murray was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of New Castle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Garren Mefford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
New Castle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Yorktown's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for New Castle, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Yorktown took their victory against New Castle in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
