Baseball Recap: Walnut Ridge Has No Trouble Against Newport

Walnut Ridge lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Newport, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. Walnut Ridge put the hurt on Newport with a sharp 13-3 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

RILEY RICHEY made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, TREVOR AUGUSTINE and TJ OWENS did most of the damage at the plate: AUGUSTINE scored four runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while OWENS scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave OWENS a new career-high. Another player making a difference was COLLIN ANDREWS, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Walnut Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Newport, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Coming up, Walnut Ridge will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Piggott at 7:00 p.m. As for Newport, they will square off against Osceola at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
