Springfield extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-10-1 in the process. They came up short against the Fairmont Firebirds, falling 16-6. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Firebirds from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Miller Sin led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brent Upshaw Jr., who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
As for Fairmont, their record is now 11-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Fairmont's side, Joey Lanning made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lanning was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Nolan Munch looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Tyler Mastro was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Fairmont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise. Skyler Slifer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fairmont beat Springfield by a score of 9-3 on Monday.
