Chesaning is on a eight-game streak of home wins, while Central Montcalm is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Chesaning Indians will take on the Central Montcalm Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Chesaning humbled Carrollton/Saginaw with a 44-6 victory. Given Chesaning's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Carrollton/Saginaw is ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brayden Florian continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, while also picking up 43 receiving yards. Florian is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Max Volk, who threw for 77 yards and four touchdowns.
Chesaning's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Mikey Clover and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Central Montcalm on the road against Lakeview on Friday as the squad secured a 39-7 win. That's two games straight that Central Montcalm has won by exactly 32 points.
Anthony Schultz was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Schultz is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mccoy Wernholm, who rushed for 109 yards on only 13 carries.
Their wins bumped Chesaning to 8-1 and Central Montcalm to 5-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Chesaning has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 216.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Central Montcalm struggles in that department as they've been even better at 219.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
