AAAA Region 3A recap Oct. 3, 2012
South Effingham moved up to 210 from 247 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 3A. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by beating Glenn Hills 50-26.
Statesboro took down Butler 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Liberty County's dynamic duo of JJ Grant and Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas proved tough for Hephzibah to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grant threw for 173 yards and one touchdown and Caldwell-Fabregas had 138 yards receiving. Joey Irrizarry helped Liberty County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.
Joshua Mercer was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 180 yards as South Effingham beat the Rebels. Cordaro Leverette also contributed to the rushing game with 114 yards on the ground.
Liberty County's Grant and Caldwell-Fabregas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grant has thrown for 326 yards this season, while Caldwell-Fabregas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 13 catches for 362 yards. The Mustangs' Mercer leads the league in rushing yards with 513.
South Effingham made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,346 from 6,461. The advance stemmed from a 50-26 victory over the Spartans last week.
