The Eastside Early College Panthers will challenge the Lago Vista Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastside Early College has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Eastside Early College's offense. They lost 17-0 to Manor New Tech on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled against Manor New Tech recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lago Vista). They never let Northeast Early College get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won five games in a row.
Winter Callahan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brynlea Cox was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Sydney Mosser was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple.
Lago Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.
Lago Vista pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Eastside Early College, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eastside Early College has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lago Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
