The Kecoughtan Warriors lost against the Hampton Crabbers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Kecoughtan fell 52-40 to Hampton. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Kecoughtan has scored all season.
Kecoughtan's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek Todd, who scored eight points. Kevin Dryden was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Hampton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malik Johnson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with three steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Abraham Taft, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and five blocks.
Kecoughtan now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Hampton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kecoughtan will square off against Menchville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Menchville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kecoughtan in Virginia (Menchville is ranked 85th, while Kecoughtan is ranked 201st). Hampton on the road again on Thursday and play against Denbigh at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Denbigh has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
