Dunnellon has gone a perfect 9-0 against Weeki Wachee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Dunnellon Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 8:00 p.m. Dunnellon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Weeki Wachee's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Dunnellon fell victim to Crystal River and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 1-0. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Makayla Duncan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
Meanwhile, Weeki Wachee can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They never let Seven Rivers Christian get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. With that victory, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Alvalyn Crisp made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Crisp was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Austyn Childs was a standout: she scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reegan Miller, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Weeki Wachee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seven Rivers Christian only posted an OBP of .455.
Dunnellon's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Weeki Wachee, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Weeki Wachee's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Dunnellon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Weeki Wachee, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Dunnellon keep running through batters, or will Weeki Wachee buck the trend?
