Franklin County Tech is 0-3 against Drury since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Franklin County Tech 3, Drury 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Franklin County Tech is headed into the match with an undefeated record on the line, something Lenox Memorial almost spoiled on Thursday. The Eagles skirted past the Millionaires 5-3.
Brody Hicks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Hicks was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, George Gutierrez Jr. was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Zadrian Alamed was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Drury got themselves on the board against McCann Tech on Monday, but McCann Tech never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 10-0 win. Fans of the Blue Devils have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
The team relied heavily on Brayden Durant, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hamilton, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Franklin County Tech pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Drury, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Franklin County Tech has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Drury struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Franklin County Tech might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Drury when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
