Halle Zupancic made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Zupancic was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, South got a massive performance out of Makayla Schneider, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ava Proctor was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mayfield lost 14-3 to Riverside on Friday.
Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Pinzone, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
South's record now sits at 12-7. As for Mayfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Mayfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South came out on top in a nail-biter against Mayfield in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 17-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
