The Presbyterian Christian Bobcats will square off against the Purvis Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Presbyterian Christian comes in on four and Purvis on five.
It was a proper cat-fight when Presbyterian Christian challenged Columbia Academy on Saturday. Presbyterian Christian had just enough and edged out Columbia Academy 4-3.
The team relied heavily on Brennon Thoms, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Jet Henderson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Purvis never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Wayne County 12-0. The Tornadoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Kade Lawler looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Drew Swan was a standout: he fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. Those home runs were his first of the season. JoJo Parker was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Purvis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Purvis' victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Presbyterian Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Presbyterian Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Purvis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Presbyterian Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Purvis in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 5-1. Does Presbyterian Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Purvis turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
