The Cyprus Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Corner Canyon Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cyprus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Cyprus struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Grantsville had 1300% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cyprus took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grantsville. Cyprus has not had much luck with Grantsville recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Cyprus saw an underclassman step up: Veanna Pauu scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Echternkamp, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Corner Canyon didn't have too much trouble with Hunter on the road on Friday as they won 60-42. Given Corner Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Hunter is ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cyprus' victory bumped their season record to 2-1 while Grantsville's defeat dropped theirs to 4-1.
Cyprus was taken down by Corner Canyon 55-28 when the teams last played back in February of 2021. Will Cyprus have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
