The Wakefield Wolverines are taking a road trip to take on the Millbrook Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakefield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Wakefield is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wake Forest on Friday. They lost 7-1 to the Cougars. The matchup marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Brianna Riehle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Millbrook hadn't done well against Rolesville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Millbrook sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 win over Rolesville. 13 seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Nicole Drew and Brynn Herman did most of the damage at the plate: Drew scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Herman scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. What's more, Drew posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Arianna Brisita, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles.
Millbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Millbrook and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Wakefield, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.
Millbrook's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wakefield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Millbrook, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Wakefield's sizable advantage in that area, Millbrook will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wakefield took their win against Millbrook when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-1. Will Wakefield repeat their success, or does Millbrook has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
