Academy Charter's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 73-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wyandanch. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Academy Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joel Beard. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Beard has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sam McQueen, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds.
Academy Charter bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Wyandanch, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy Charter will take on Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wyandanch will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mount Sinai at 4:00 p.m. on February 5th.
