The North Surry Greyhounds and the Mount Airy Granite Bears will face off at 6:15 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North Surry has five straight victories, Mount Airy has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Wednesday, North Surry didn't have too much trouble with Mount Airy on the road as they won 44-28. Given North Surry's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Mount Airy is ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Surry had a senior duo take command as Sadie Badgett scored 15 points along with six assists and four steals and Josie Tompkins scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Badgett has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Niston, who scored four points along with four steals.
North Surry is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Mount Airy, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
North Surry strolled past Mount Airy in their previous meeting on Wednesday by a score of 44-28. Does North Surry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Airy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
