Edgewood is 9-1 against Stoughton since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Crusaders will head out to square off against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Edgewood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Stoughton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Edgewood and McFarland meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Crusaders blew past the Spartans 8-1. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stoughton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past Whitewater 13-12. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the game before.
Colyn Kotlowski made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Stoughton: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Saxton Wiest, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Stoughton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Hedstrom, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Stoughton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.2.
Edgewood's record now sits at 10-3-1. As for Stoughton, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-11.
Edgewood took their victory against Stoughton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
