Palmview is 1-9 against Rio Grande City since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Palmview Lobos will head out on the road to take on the Rio Grande City Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Palmview has 16 straight victories, Rio Grande City has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Palmview has not done well against Cigarroa recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Palmview took down Cigarroa 57-42. Given Palmview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Cigarroa is ranked 604th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jocelyn Rojas led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five steals. Rojas hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Nicole Flores was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Rio Grande City came up short against Martin back in December of 2023 and fell 37-30.
Palmview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. As for Rio Grande City, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
Palmview was able to grind out a solid win over Rio Grande City when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 40-27. Will Palmview repeat their success, or does Rio Grande City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
