After a string of four wins, the Scotland Fighting Scots's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jack Britt. The contest was a 33-33 toss-up at halftime, but Scotland was outscored by Jack Britt in the second.
Scotland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Morgan Thompson, who scored 34 points along with eight rebounds, and Alicia McClain who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Thompson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Dixon, who scored six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jack Britt to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zahara Gerald, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Gerald has scored at least 25% of Jack Britt's points. Dezariyah "Dezzy" Clark was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Scotland's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-1. As for Jack Britt, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scotland won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Marlboro County at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Marlboro County is ranked 243rd in South Carolina, while Scotland is ranked 218th in North Carolina). Jack Britt will be home for the holidays to greet Douglas Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Douglas Byrd focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
