Reagan Foglia was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Spring Valley got themselves on the board against Bonanza on Wednesday, but Bonanza never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bengals 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.
The result came thanks to Sophie Bowmer's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubree Holcombe, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Raelynn Villanueva was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
Spring Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Sierra Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Sierra Vista hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spring Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Sierra Vista's way against Spring Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Sierra Vista made off with a 9-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountain Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
